According to the Pew Research Center, findings from a survey ending in December 2011 showed some 43% of Americans age sixteen and older have either read an e-book in the past year or have read other long-form content such as magazines, journals, and news articles in digital format on an e-book reader, tablet computer, regular computer, or cell phone.

Authors who make their books available in digital format are poised to garner a wider readership in the months and years to come, said a spokesperson for the Kindle Fire Department, a website devoted to showcasing ebooks, apps and games.
